The Machine That Dreams

An android woman in cold, empty rooms dreams that she is human.

The chapters move from the room to her body and face. In the last two she breaks up into digital glitches, then reappears warm and human.

The room

A white corridor and a lab under strip light.

Gaunt android in a white clinical corridor, leaning toward camera
Android figure standing in a lab under rows of ceiling strips, reflected in the floor

The body

Bodies and faces in tanks and pods, or hung from cables.

Hooded android woman lit cold blue, eyes lowered, deep black around her
Close on an android face, pale and still, a fine crack down the forehead
Synthetic head with frost-like artificial skin, blue light
Android body hanging by cables in a dark factory, one strip light

Of the four worlds, this one is the closest to the machine imagery in Afterimage.

Seated android under a crown of cables, flat pale light
Synthetic woman suspended in a tank of pale blue fluid, threads floating
Synthetic figure in a frosted glass pod, the face seen through cold haze with threads around the head

The face

Seams, membranes and one warm reflection.

Synthetic face splitting along a fine seam, blue fibre underneath
Membrane-wrapped face starting to glitch, one amber spark at the centre
Macro of a synthetic eye in matte android skin, cold light
Macro of a synthetic eye holding a tiny warm reflection

The glitch

Datamosh smears across her face, and her body breaking apart in a white room.

Android face breaking into datamosh smears and horizontal tears
Android in a white lab dissolving at the edges
Figure in a white room glitching apart from the head down
Vast cold room, a tiny figure in fog

The dream

The same woman in warm light, now human.

The same synthetic face flooded with warm gold, as if dreaming
The same woman, now warm, human and alive, warm light rising from below
A woman with a short dark crop in warm sunlight, a shadow figure behind her
A woman standing small in a warm sunlit haze, in silhouette
