Pseudosynthesis

One dancer's motion capture, reinterpreted with AI and rebuilt in 3D.

Performance film, 2025

An experimental performance film. I built the pipeline that takes the motion capture through MotionBuilder, ComfyUI and Blender.

I directed the film and worked as the CG generalist, from the motion capture session to the final render. The dancer and the 3D sculptor I worked with are credited in the film.

From capture to render

A jointed grey mannequin mid-movement on a dark stage, cables trailing

Capture

One dancer, one capture session.

A dancer performed the movement in a motion capture session, and I processed the takes in MotionBuilder.

ToolsMotionBuilder

A row of figures breaking into glitched vertical slices

Interpret

AI transfers the motion onto new bodies.

I ran the captured motion through WAN 2.2 Animate in ComfyUI to generate new bodies performing the same movement, including smooth mannequins, skeletons and glass figures.

ToolsComfyUI, WAN 2.2 Animate

A tangle of pale sculpted bodies around a skeleton

Build

Lit and rendered in Blender.

I built the environments and lighting in Blender around the sculpted figures, rendered the shots and then edited the film.
